National Home Security Month sheds light on how to protect what matters most

UK residents are being offered seasonal security advice, as part of National Home Security Month (NHSM), a five-week campaign helping to protect the nation’s homes, families and property as the nights draw in.

The theme for Week Five of the annual initiative is ‘You call it home, we keep it protected’, designed to create awareness around keeping your home, property and loved ones safe during the darker winter months.

As the dark nights draw in burglaries spike by more than a third1, with bonfire night alone seeing an increase of 115 per cent in home insurance claims2. With the nights getting longer, more noise and distractions and increasingly empty homes, criminals are getting more confident – clearly highlighting the importance of keeping your property protected.

In response, throughout week five, NHSM will provide seasonal advice, particularly around Halloween and Bonfire Night, to turn the tables on burglars and make sure your home is a scary prospect for them.

Launched in 2013 and backed by high-profile supporters, including lead sponsor Yale, NHSM provides advice and information on how UK residents can keep their homes, possessions and loved ones safe as the dark nights draw in.

The theme for this year’s campaign, which runs throughout October, is ‘You call it home, we keep it secure’, encouraging homeowners to use trusted security products that meet the latest standards.
