Find your own safe haven this winter with National Home Security Month

UK homeowners are being urged to create their own safe haven as part of National Home Security Month (NHSM), a five-week campaign helping to protect the nation’s homes, families and possessions this winter.

The theme for Week Two (w/c October 12) of the annual initiative is ‘You call it home, we keep it safe’.

You stand the best chance of keeping your possessions away from thieves if they don’t know what you have to begin with. That’s why some of the most effective security solutions available focus on keeping valuables out of sight.

According to research, smaller belongings, such as laptops, cash, mobile phones and jewellery, are now the most commonly stolen items in domestic burglaries1. However, in many UK homes these valuable items aren’t covered by content insurance; in fact, six million households across the country don’t have any form of home insurance at all2.

In response, throughout week two, NHSM will focus on indoor security. From choosing the best hiding places to keep your valuables safe, to the top choices for indoor cameras, we’ve got everything you need to know about securing the inside of your home.

Launched in 2013 and backed by high-profile supporters, including lead sponsor Yale, NHSM provides advice and information on how UK residents can keep their homes, possessions and loved ones safe.

The theme for this year’s campaign, which runs throughout October, is ‘You call it home, we keep it secure’, encouraging homeowners to use trusted security products that meet the latest standards.
